My lovely buddy from WU, Karin invited me and Kai (Xuan) over to her cosy little apartment in Tampines on Sunday for some lovely Austrian dinner! (and because it's my buddy, I didn't mind the making an arduous 45 minute long journey to get there)
Well, but of course, as with anyone cooking, Karin made a disclamer to me and Kai to inform us that this is her first time cooking Austrian food, so we better don't get our expectations too high up! But in the end, her food was great and Man! It's been so long since I've had Schnitzels and the sausage with bacon wrapped around it thing (was it called Kaiserkrainer?)
She also made some lovely austrian Frittenzuppe for us and we ended the night with wine (lovely Australian Muscato by Kai; yes, Austrian wines are hard to find here so we had to make do with it) , mooncakes (the famous Champaign Truffles mini snow skins from Raffles Hotel bought by yours truly) and some lovely Austrain dessert pancakes!
We started with some Frittenzuppe (which was the favourite of Lovely Miss Whitney Rhorer in Wien) chicken stock with strips of pancakes, i missed this!
Then we had Schnitzels, in pork and chicken, no less! Karin could not find the breadcrumbs so she got another type of multi purpose crumbs instead, but the end product is still amazing! It tastes so authentic and reminded me of the cafe SV opposite WU where on Monday nights. has Schnitzels for just 3 Euros (I if course, loved that place to death!
Then the bacon wrapped saussages (which I remembered dear ole' Claus made for us when he invited me over to his home in Austria). Sadly we don't have cheese stuffed saussages so Karin bought frankfurters and had to wrapped the bacon herself - it was heavenly too!
Then dessert time! Traditionally rolled in apricot jam, we tried Nutella (who dosen't love Nutella?) and also, added some local twist with Kaya (which Karin said is delicious!)
Karin's apartment is so cosy! Look at how lovely it is!
Come Friday, I'll be bringing Karin to Chinatown and find that apparently very famous Austrian Guy in Trenganu Street selling German Sauassages (Karin said he was mentioned on Austrian radio!)
